Countrier Than Thou is 4 years old!

Howdy Folks,
Well it’s a huge week for Bonanza & Son Promotions as firstly we’ve changed our name slightly to reflect the new family business vibe, we are also very excited to officially announce the relaunch of our radio show on ResonanceFM which broadcasts from Monday 10th October with A Glen Campbell Special.

Thursday sees us celebrate our 4th Birthday of Countrier Than Thou at The Lock Tavern with two of our favourite acts on the Americana scene at the moment and then as we head into the weekend we have two DJ sets, one at Defectors Weld on Friday and on Saturday we’re at Filthy MacNasties…

Hope to see you around and if you arrive early on Thursday there’ll be a handful of Bonanza & Son birthday compilation mixes for the first few through the door.

See y’all.

Bonanza & Son Promotions Present:
'Countrier Than Thou’ 4th BIRTHDAY PARTY…

@ The Lock Tavern

Thursday 29th September 2011

Bonanza's 'Countrier Than Thou' club night has now been successfully running at The Lock Tavern for FOUR WHOLE YEARS and to celebrate we have booked two of our favourite bands on the Americana circuit The Family and Stax Dempsey.

There will also be a special giveaway Bonanza mix compilation cd for the early birds.

Bonanza has been presenting the best in Country, Blues, Americana and Roots Music for four years at the Lock Tavern from way back in the days when Country was still a dirty word round these parts and Americana was thought by some to be simply a typo error!

Not only having consistently sourced excellence in traditional Country Music Bonanza has also discovered the most forward-thinking Avant-Country, Punk-Blues, Americana and Roots music with zero irony just good old-fashioned quality music and very good times.

Bonanza also broadcasts a popular weekly radio show on ResonanceFM (relaunching in October) as well as running numerous other club nights and dj sets in the capital.

Live acts

The Family:
A very welcome return for our favourite, and in Bonanza's humble opinion THEE best, Country-Rocking band this side of Texas!

This will be the bands only UK gig for the rest of the year as they are busy recording new material but they said they wouldn’t miss this party for the world!

The Family will swagger right into The Lock Tavern with their Bourbon-drenched, good-old-boys brand of Rocking, Cosmic-Country for bow-legged women!

Imagine 'Exile on Main Street' era Rolling Stones jamming with Gram Parsons or sounding like George Harrison’s best guitar licks that he looted from Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins and Buck Owens thrift store!

Primal Scream have been trying to capture this kind of sound for years but never quite managed the authentic Americana... So think early Faces having a boozy punch-up with Messrs Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson or Country-Honking Rolling Stones getting sour-mashed with'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo' era Byrds.

Bedlam beckons for all Spacemen 'n' Cowgirls!

+ Stax Dempsey Band (USA):
Now Augmented into a shit-kicking and rocking 5 piece...Output recordings hotshot and Californian via Greenwich village Neo-Boho Native New York genius Stax Dempsey will weave a sophisticated and complex blend of loops, samples, 60's rock and oscillating acid trickery as well as good old fashioned, analogue, with his full on Americana and Rock 'n’ Roll plus purple flashes of Psychedelia and Surf music band.

Dempsey's lyrics, samples, scratches and distortions reflect a true pioneering spirit that has seen him being compared to such diverse acts as Prince, Beck and Ariel Pink and being produced by such stalwarts as Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) and 'Playgroups' Trevor Jackson as well as recording at Edwyn CollinsWest Heath Yard studio with Fridge as the backing band.
The result was the critically acclaimed album ‘Sunrise/Sunset’.

'A strong blend of trip-hop, delta blues, urban funk and alt-country. Provides the perfect soundtrack to city life.' - Dan Cairns, The Times
