New art work

Here is the third poster in the series 'Dead Stars, Shining Lights’.

This artwork is for the clubnight ‘Countrier Than Thou’ and the theme centres around some of our favourite but sadly departed Country and Americana artists.

These posters act as source material for a larger series of more elaborate oil paintings.

Live acts:

The Blind Hearts:
A very welcome return of our favourite Hillbilly rabble and ‘The Infamous 5’ that is The Blind Hearts.

A scruffy, young band of guitar pickin, harmony-hollerin, Bourbon-swiggin', Folk-Blues-Country yokels from as far afield as Manchester, London and Japan. They describe their sound as 'Moving Manchester to the Mississippi’ but with an array of international band members they might be more correctly described as Worldcana rather than Americana… A true melting pot of musical influences in the best sense of borrowing from the best.

There are elements of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers in the mix as well as a hint of The Paisley Underground bands and a healthy slab of the pure Britishness of The Faces, The Stones and even The Waterboys come to mind.

They possess a sound that is both down-home and yet slick, highly sophisticated Country-Rock with a 60’s Pop sensibility in the very best sense of the word and dare we say it, they bring something new to Country and Americana.

The boys freely admit that everything in their cannon is stolen tunes, rearranged in completely the wrong order and played incorrectly! The most honest band in London perhaps?

It sounds like it'd never work but these boys sing like angels in cowboy boots that've just been sent crashing through some rickety, Wild-West, saloon doors and out into the street kicking and a' gouging in the mud, the blood and the beer.

Since their last appearance on The Lock Tavern stage they now have under their gun belts two live sessions on Simon Lederman's BBC London radio show, a single produced by The Charlatans' Mark Collins as well as numerous summer festival appearances and also a brand new Americana night of their own in Portobello called ‘No Direction Home’. Men after our own hearts!

+ Sean Taylor:
Sean Taylor is one of the hottest new names on the European Blues and Americana scene. His passionate performances combine with songwriting of the highest calibre and are testament to his frequent comparisons with John Martyn, Neil Young and Tom Waits.

Sean is a firm favourite on Bob Harris' BBC Radio show including a live session and numerous plays of his recent singles ‘London’ and ‘Kilburn’. As you may have guessed Taylor stamps his own, personal take on Americana having been born and bred in London and singing about what he knows and the streets where he grew up.

Boasting three headline UK tours to date, Sean has also supported the Neville Brothers, John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Band of Horses, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Dukes and Eric Bibb.

He also can count Chris Isaak as one of his many fans. We won’t argue with that.

'Formidable and skilled'...Chris Isaak.

'An absolutely superb guitarist ... reminiscent of John Martyn’...
Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2.

'A Bluesy devotional intensity that rightly draws comparisons to John Martyn"
