'Countrier Than Thou'…
‘Lock Tavern Ten year party Boy-Girl Duo Special'
‘Country • Americana • Rock ’n 'Roll’
@ The Lock Tavern
Thursday 31st May 2012
Throughout the history of Country and Americana boy-girl duos have been a staple including Johnny & June, Dolly and Porter, Emmylou and Gram, Glen & Bobby, Tammy & George. Nancy & Lee etc etc.
Live acts:
Cowbell:
Boy-girl, guitar-drums duo and Too Pure signings Cowbell have been very busy of late what with having 'single of the week' on Nemones BBC 6Music show as well as touring with Cast on their comeback tour! Cowbell's sound has matured into a more Soulful groove whilst still retaining the Rootsy, Rock ’n’ Roll that we love. They’ll be sending us ‘back to the future' with their assured, contemporary take on 60’s, garage rock as Jack Sandham’s blistering, Blues-bugging riffs bounce around Wednesday Lyle’s dirty, drum sound like a far sexier Black Keys.
They’ve been perfecting their ‘chops’ and promise to deliver their debut album very soon so expect to hear plenty of new songs showcasing said album tonight.

+ The Kilcawley Family:
A welcome return to the Lock Tavern stage for Brother & Sister duo and anachronistic, Americana aficionados, The Kilcawley Family. These simmering, siblings are nothing less than a Hillbilly phenomena. Theirs is an authentic, pre-war, Country sound with a Gothic edge in the vein of The Carter Family or Jimmy Rogers on a Bonnie & Clyde collision course with Vampira and The Adams Family… All with a rocket from the crypt and a rocket from the tombs up their jacksy! Yeeeeeee haaaaaa!

+UG
UG is the latest incarnation of One Little Indian/Mute Song signing Emit Bloch and Photographer/Musician/80’s Pop star Kate Garner. Bloch is no stranger to the Countrier Than Thou stage but with UG he has found a more organic and augmented sound often using loops, samples and sound affects as well as his trade mark, lo-fi dictaphone, field-recorded sound. Imagine The Band jamming with The Grateful Dead whilst Beck conducts and wonders what Gerry put in the orange juice!
+ Guest DJs
Emit Bloch & Kate Garner
Expect an eclectic set of Country, Bluegrass & Americana from 10 decades.
+ Bonanza & Son DJ set (ResonanceFM)
Radio Presenters, DJs and Club night promoters playing the best examples of Americana boy-girl duos including Johnny Cash and June Carter, Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner, Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra, Glen Campbell & Bobby Gentry, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, Tammy Wynette & George Jones etc
+ Lots of old, dusty vinyl of the Country, Blues, Bluegrass & Americana variety & a few oddities to twist your heads.
+ Bonanza & Son will be screening rare, cinematic, Americana curios featuring boy-girl duos all night long.

‘Runaway Train’ from 1985 was based on an original screenplay by Akira Kurosawa and rewritten by Eddie Bunker. It starred Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, both in Oscar nominated performances and an equally impressive performance from Rebecca De Mornay. It has an excellent score by Trevor Jones. Directed by Andrei Konchalovsky.
Received a load of new ‘gear’ in the post today... Ray Wylie Hubbard's new LP 'Grifter's Hymnal' is really shit-hot as is the new album from Martyn Stuart…
Expect to hear both aplenty on tomorrows show on ResonanceFM. Wednesday 4pm...
Plus a live session from Russell Joslin;
Plus Country & Americana new & old.
